Green Card Lottery Winners by Country: DV-2026 Selectees Explained

“Green Card Lottery winners by country” is a common search phrase, but the U.S. Department of State describes these DV-2026 figures as prospective applicants registered by foreign state of chargeability. The totals include selectees and their eligible spouses and children. They are not counts of green cards issued, visas granted, or principal entrants selected in each country.

Important: DV-2026 is a completed program year. Its fiscal-year deadline was September 30, 2026. These figures are historical and cannot be used to enter DV-2026, reopen an expired case, or predict the outcome of a future lottery.

What the DV-2026 country figures mean

The Department groups the figures by foreign state of chargeability, an immigration term generally connected to a person’s place of birth. Limited rules may allow a person to use a spouse’s or parent’s country of chargeability. It is not necessarily the person’s citizenship, passport country, or current residence.

The country totals count prospective applicants registered for the program, including selectees and their eligible spouses and children. Therefore, a country’s number does not tell readers how many principal entrants were selected, how many people completed visa processing, or how many visas were ultimately issued.

The tables below reorganize the Department’s published breakdown into one readable table per region. They are historical program statistics—not country-level selection odds, a ranking of visa approvals, or a prediction of future visa availability.

Why “selected” does not mean “won a green card”

Selection allows an entrant to continue to the next steps; it is not a visa approval. A selectee still has to meet the applicable education or qualifying work-experience requirement, submit the required application, provide supporting documents, complete required checks, attend an interview when instructed, and be eligible for a visa number before the program deadline. A spouse or child included in the case must also meet applicable requirements.

The Department registered approximately 129,516 prospective applicants for DV-2026 from 20,822,624 qualified entries. The prospective-applicant total is larger than the number of visas available because not everyone selected will complete processing or qualify, and family members are included in the count. After statutory reductions, the effective DV-2026 visa limit was approximately 51,850. Selection alone did not reserve a visa for any individual.

The law also limits the share of available diversity visas that may be issued to people chargeable to any one country. That limit concerns visa issuance; it does not turn this table into a country-by-country list of visas granted or a guarantee that every listed person could receive one.

DV-2026 is over: what readers should know

DV-2026 applicants had to obtain a visa or adjust status by the end of fiscal year 2026, September 30, 2026. That deadline has passed. A late entry, late application, or payment to a private website cannot reopen DV-2026 or restore eligibility.

Anyone checking a past DV-2026 result should use the official Entrant Status Check. Our DV Lottery Entrant Status Check guide explains how to approach a result and avoid common status-check mistakes. Do not share a confirmation number with an untrusted service.

These historical figures cannot establish eligibility for a later lottery year. Each program year has its own entry period, instructions, eligible-country rules, and deadlines. Readers considering a future Diversity Visa program can review our American DV Lottery overview, then confirm the applicable year’s official instructions before taking action.

How to read country statistics responsibly

  • Check the program year. DV-2026 statistics are historical and should not be treated as current figures for another lottery year.
  • Read the table label. These are prospective-applicant counts by chargeability, not visas issued.
  • Do not infer individual odds. A country’s total does not show the number of qualified entries from that country or an individual’s chance of selection.
  • Distinguish chargeability from citizenship. The applicable country may depend on the program rules and an applicant’s family circumstances.
  • Use official instructions for action. A past country count cannot determine current eligibility or replace instructions for a future program year.
  • Be cautious of paid guarantees. No private service can guarantee selection or a visa.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the number of Green Card Lottery winners in each country?

No. The figures count prospective applicants registered for DV-2026, including selectees and their eligible spouses and children. They do not count only principal selectees and do not show how many visas were issued.

Does a higher country figure mean a better chance of selection?

No. These totals are not country-level odds. They do not provide the number of qualified entries from each country or an individual entrant’s probability of selection. Selection is governed by the program’s rules and regional allocations.

Can someone still apply for DV-2026?

No. The DV-2026 fiscal-year deadline ended on September 30, 2026. These figures are historical and cannot be used to make a new DV-2026 entry or extend the program deadline.

Where can I check official Diversity Visa information?

Use the U.S. Department of State’s DV-2026 selected entrants and country statistics page for this historical breakdown. For program rules and year-specific instructions, consult the Department’s Diversity Visa instructions.
