American DV Lottery Results: Where to Check and What Your Result Means

American DV Lottery results are checked through the U.S. government’s Entrant Status Check at dvprogram.state.gov, using the confirmation number from your entry. The Department of State does not send a winning email or letter. A selected result permits a qualified entrant to continue the immigrant visa process; it is not a visa, a Green Card or a guarantee of approval.

Official sources checked: September 25, 2026. This guide is for people who actually submitted a Diversity Visa entry and need to understand its result. GlobalVisora is an independent information website, not a government agency. The featured image is a conceptual AI-generated photograph, not a screenshot of a real result.

Which DV results are available?

The program year matters. USAGov says DV-2026 results became available on May 3, 2025, and remain accessible through at least September 30, 2026. That statement applies to entries submitted for DV-2026. It does not announce a results date for DV-2027 or a later program.

At this check, the State Department’s DV-2027 notice says it will announce both the delayed registration opening and the date its selection results may become available. It does not provide a confirmed results day. Do not assume an old “first Saturday in May” pattern applies to a delayed cycle. The official DV-2027 entry-period notice is the current reference for that distinction.

If you did not submit a valid entry for a particular program year, there is no result to retrieve for that year. Someone cannot create a winning result on your behalf after the entry window closes. If you are uncertain which year you entered, look at the confirmation record you saved rather than guessing from a news headline.

Use the government status check

Go to dvprogram.state.gov by typing the address yourself or by following the result link on the USAGov DV results page. Select Entrant Status Check for the correct program year and enter the requested confirmation number and identifying details exactly as the system asks. Read the full status and any instructions displayed there.

The confirmation number belongs to the entry that was submitted. A screenshot from an agent, a forwarded email or a list of names on a commercial website cannot replace your own status check. Keep the number private and do not post the entire confirmation page on social media. USAGov says the check should be performed by the entrant, and the Department of State uses this system to communicate selection status.

Older State Department pages sometimes describe a lost confirmation number as unrecoverable. Current USAGov guidance links to a recovery tool using the email address associated with the entry and identity details. If you have lost your number, use that government recovery route. It is not a paid service, and a private operator does not need your password to use it.

What does a selected result mean?

Selection means the entry was drawn and the entrant may pursue the next stage if qualified. It does not establish that the country-of-birth claim, education or work history, family information, admissibility and documents will pass review. It also does not reserve a visa regardless of deadlines and available visa numbers.

For example, two people may both see selected results, yet only one may eventually be issued a visa. One might establish every requirement and complete the process in time; the other might not establish the required education or qualifying work experience. This is a hypothetical illustration, not an estimate of anyone’s approval odds.

The next task for a qualified selectee is to read the instructions in Entrant Status Check and complete the applicable immigrant visa application, including Form DS-260 for the people applying. Gather the records requested for the particular case and embassy or consulate. An interview and eligibility decision follow if the case reaches that stage. Our DV Lottery requirements guide explains the two core eligibility routes separately.

Act promptly without making irreversible plans solely on the basis of selection. A fiscal-year deadline applies to Diversity Visas, and visas can become unavailable before that date. Wait for actual visa issuance before resigning, selling property or booking non-refundable relocation travel.

What if the result says you were not selected?

A non-selected result means that entry was not drawn for the stated program year. It is not a judgment that you failed an interview or that your documents were rejected. Do not pay someone to “upgrade” or “activate” that entry: no adviser can change a completed random selection into a win.

If a future DV entry period is announced and you meet that year’s rules, you may consider submitting a new entry for the new program year. The country list, instructions, documents and dates should be checked afresh. Our DV Lottery registration guide covers the preparation and confirmation steps for a new cycle.

How to handle a result page that seems wrong

First check the program year, confirmation number and requested personal details against your original entry record. A typing mistake or choosing the wrong program year can prevent you from seeing the correct status. If you lost the number, follow the recovery link provided on the USAGov results page. Avoid repeatedly entering altered identity details or using a third-party “checker.”

A message that a result is not yet available is different from an official non-selected result. If the government has not announced a results date for the program year, wait for the announcement rather than treating a blank or unavailable status as a loss. If the official system is temporarily unavailable, try again later using the government site. Do not send your confirmation number to strangers who offer to check for you.

Recognize fake winning messages

The State Department does not send a letter or email telling entrants that they have been selected. A government email may remind a person to check the official system, but it does not announce a winning result in the message. A claim that you must pay immediately to release the result, buy an interview or avoid losing a “guaranteed Green Card” is a warning sign.

Be particularly cautious with lookalike domains, sponsored ads, messaging apps and documents styled as official notices. Type the government address yourself. Check the result through Entrant Status Check, then use its instructions for the next step. Never make a payment based only on a forwarded screenshot.

Keep the result and the later visa case separate

A DV entry confirmation proves that an entry was submitted; Entrant Status Check reports selection; a later case may involve DS-260, documents, interview scheduling and a consular decision. Those are different records. Keep the program year and the relevant identifier with each one so that you do not use a registration confirmation where a visa case number is requested.

For DV-2026, the government’s stated fiscal-year limit is September 30, 2026. That date is a processing limit for the relevant selected cases, not a results date for every future cycle. For DV-2027, the announced visa application period is October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, but the State Department says the results availability date will be announced separately. Always match a date to the exact stage and program year before acting on it.

The practical rule is simple: check your own result on the official system when that program year’s result window is announced, preserve the record securely, and follow the instructions that apply to the status shown. Selection opens a possible application path; only the later government decision determines whether a visa is issued.
