UK Visa Requirements for Nepali Citizens: Visitor Guide

Last checked September 25, 2026. Nepali passport holders normally require a UK Standard Visitor visa in advance for tourism and short family visits. Nepal is on the official visitor visa-national list. Even if you work in another country, the travel-document rule still matters; do not assume that a foreign residence card is a UK visitor authorisation.

A short family visit versus a move

Many trips are to see a son, daughter or other relative in Britain. Describe the relationship, the dates and where you will stay. If the host is covering some costs, explain which ones and provide evidence of that support. A host’s immigration status and invitation can be relevant to the visit, yet an invitation is not a substitute for the visitor’s own explanation of why the trip is temporary. If the aim is to live with family permanently, a visitor visa is the wrong route.

Make your evidence fit your actual circumstances

A retired parent, a student and a business owner will not have identical paperwork. A retired applicant might explain pension or family support and ongoing commitments; a student can tie travel to a term break; a shop owner can show how the business operates during the absence. UKVI does not require every applicant to own property or hold a salaried job. What matters is a coherent account of the trip, finances and intention to leave.

Prepare a budget that includes flights, accommodation, travel within the UK and daily expenses. If money comes from another person, do not label it as your own earnings. Identify the funder and the relationship. Large recent deposits may need evidence of their origin. There is no single official savings amount in Nepalese rupees that automatically qualifies someone for a visa.

From online form to a decision

Apply using GOV.UK, pay the fee and complete identity and supporting-document steps at the application centre specified during the process. The official application page currently gives £135 for the usual six-month Standard Visitor visa, allows application up to three months before travel and says most decisions come within three weeks once identity and documents are provided. This is not a promise that your appointment or decision will fall on a particular date. Recheck live fees and timing before committing to travel.

Translate records not written in English or Welsh in line with UKVI’s instructions. Check that names and dates on civil documents, financial evidence and the application agree. A visit for employment, full-time long study or marriage needs a different analysis; do not present it as sightseeing. The final visa decision and border admission remain with the UK authorities.
