Information checked September 25, 2026. Bangladeshi passport holders who want a short UK family visit or holiday generally need a Standard Visitor visa in advance. Bangladesh appears on the UK government’s visitor visa-national list. This requirement follows citizenship, so a residence permit from the Gulf, Europe or another region does not automatically make a Bangladeshi traveller eligible for an ETA.
What must your travel story establish?
UKVI needs to be satisfied that you are visiting for a permitted temporary purpose, can pay for the trip and intend to leave when it ends. A sightseeing trip should have a believable length and budget. For a family visit, name the host and explain the relationship and accommodation plan. A graduation or wedding invitation can explain why a trip is happening at a particular time, but the invitation alone does not prove funds or an intention to return.
Show where the money comes from
Applicants often focus only on the closing balance of a bank account. A better approach is to connect the trip budget to normal income and accessible savings. Employees can explain salary credits; business owners can explain trading income; someone supported by a spouse or adult child can identify that support and provide evidence of the sponsor’s ability to pay. Sudden large deposits deserve a truthful explanation with appropriate records. There is no official fixed amount in taka that everyone must show.
If you are visiting a relative who offers free accommodation, still account for flights and day-to-day costs. If you will spend time in several UK cities, include those transport costs. Avoid a trip plan whose expected expense is implausible beside the income and savings you disclose. UKVI assesses your full circumstances, not a single document in isolation.
Explain your ongoing life outside the UK
A short leave approval, active studies, a running business or family responsibilities can help explain return plans when they are genuine and supported. None of these creates an automatic entitlement to a visa. Likewise, property ownership is not a mandatory requirement and is not a substitute for a clear reason to travel. If you live outside Bangladesh, explain that residence accurately and be ready to show your legal status there.
Application route and timing
Use the official online application and follow its instructions for biometrics and documents. The UK Standard Visitor application page currently lists a £135 fee for up to six months, permits applications up to three months before travel, and says decisions usually arrive within three weeks after identity and documents are supplied. Recheck fee and timing when applying; delays and appointment availability vary. Do not assume a flight reservation or an agent’s promise can secure a favourable decision.
Documents not in English or Welsh need suitable translations. Cross-check passport details, job dates, bank evidence and previous travel answers against the online form.
